Founded by Gerry Ettinger in 1934, Ettinger remains a family-owned business, now run by his elder son, Robert Ettinger. As one of the few remaining British luxury leather goods makers still manufacturing in the UK, we take great pride in designing and handcrafting only the finest leather goods.
In 1996, in recognition of our work for the Royal Household, Ettinger of London was appointed a Royal Warrant to HRH The Prince of Wales. We are honoured to have since been granted a second Royal Warrant by His Majesty King Charles III.
Gerry moved to London in 1933 and was offered the role as a UK representative for several German factories producing leather goods. Quickly after that, Herion of Pforzheim, a German leather company offered him the exclusive agency for the UK and was set up with an office in Regents Street, in the heart of London.
In a very austere post-war period, Gerry remained vivacious and driven, travelling to Germany to help rebuild the country’s film industry before heading back to London where he was commissioned by Asprey to source quality leather goods from the continent which were then in very short supply.
Gerry seized the opportunity to purchase a factory in London’s historic leather quarter. Ettinger had been commissioning orders of brifcases from the Prestwick Luggage factory since 1935, so when its owner retired, aquiring the factory was a natural progression for the business.
Ettinger crafted the box for the Coronation Bell, a special souvenir celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. This marked the first occasion Ettinger collaborated with the British Royal Family, setting the stage for a long-standing relationship.
The Tensor lamp was an innovative folding lamp, ideal for close work or reading. Featured in newspapers as a ground-breaking novelty, it further elevated Ettinger’s reputation.
Robert Ettinger, Gerry’s eldest son, joined the family business, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history.
Due to the gentrification of London’s leather quarter, many factories and manufacturers move to The Midlands.
